the TRUTH HIDDEN WITHIN

In a society filled with taboo topics we avoid talking about these topics.

SEXUAL ASSAULT being a topic we still find to be a “taboo conversation”. The Metoo movement has been a positive start to give people a safe space to voice their experience and what they have been though.

1 in 6 american women and 1 in 33 men have experienced completed or attempted sexual assault during their lifetime.

My looks reflect the mix of emotions one might have experienced.

Deweerdt’s use of mix media and colors creates a unique flow of colors that closely resemble heathered and worsted yarns being knitted.

Inspired by David Deweerdt, a Belgian expressionist painter, has work of mixed media and figurative critques.

the TRUTH HIDDEN WITHIN

Model: Maja Stockwell

Each part of the garment represents a emotions one could have been though.

Moss Stitch is used for the top of the dress to create texture and allow of an uneven tone in the knit.

With the use of aran cables, I created an irregular cable design that is incorporated into skirt of the dress.

The irregular cables represent the confusion and anxiousness.

The tight ribs represent the smothering feeling and the sense of hiding away.

Used heather yarn in the ribs to create a contrast in color and texture.

The  UNKNOWN

Close up view of the aran cable skirt.

The skirt is made with 2 rectangular peices knitted together with rib to create a balloon shape on the body.

Adding an open back that shows the closed off yet open garment that represents a person’s emotions.

Hiding their true feeling, held together by a bow.

the   Beginning

Hand knit Bubble Dress

Representing the mass amount of feeling being held inside. The circular shaped is using to convey suffocation and disorientation.

The pants is knitted with a worsted yarn, a mix of dark pinks and burgundy. The mix of different colors with distress knitting creates a interesting pattern against the skin.

The distressed knit shows the missing parts that are left unfilled.
